Alexander De Croo selected as World Economic Forum's Young Global Leader
Deputy Prime Minister Alexander De Croo has been selected as Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum (WEF), a network of leading figures in economy, technology and international cooperation. Alexander De Croo will focus on international development, human rights and inclusive economic growth. He will also push forward the importance of digitalisation for the global development agenda.
The last two years Alexander De Croo has already been active as vice-president of the Global Agenda Council on Ageing, a thinktank and discussion group within the WEF that focuses on the promises of ageing. He also participated at WEF-sessions in Geneva and Dalian (China).
The next five years Alexander De Croo will mainly engage in debates on international development, human rights and inclusive economic growth. He will also push forward the importance of digitalisation for the global development agenda, an issue that coincides with his government portfolios on development and Digital Agenda.
The World Economic Forum increasing includes NGO's in its undertakings. This year's Annual Meeting in Davos was co-chaired by Oxfam's Executive Director Winnie Byanyima, also a leading women rights voice in Africa.
Previous Young Global Leaders are the Belgian tech entrepreneur Dries Buytaert, Spotify-founder Daniel Ek, the American writer Dave Eggers, Finnish PM Alexander Stubb en Labourleader Ed Miliband. From Belgium, Queen Mathilde and former Deputy Prime Minister Vincent Van Quickenborne are YGL-alumni.
