Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Digital Agenda and Telecom Alexander De Croo hosted a breakfast meeting yesterday morning in Brussels with Prime Minister Charles Michel, Rob Nail (CEO Singularity University) and Belgian business leaders. Central topic was how to unleash the potential of the digital economy in Belgium.
Together with Prime Minister Charles Michel, De Croo talked about how Artificial intelligence (AI) can change the way we communicate and how exponentially growing technologies have profound effects on how economies function (Exonomics).
Digitizing Belgium
The group also discussed the new report Digitizing Belgium, that identifies Belgium as a digital frontrunner in Europe. “Focussing on digitization could translate into 300.000 jobs by 2020”, concludes the report by the Boston Consulting Group carried out for Google
Not only will digitizing create more jobs, economic activity in Belgium will experience a boost. “Companies and governments need to be bold and show ambition. Belgium has the opportunity to become a digital frontrunner in Europe, but in order to become so we need to stand firm on renewing our economy”, says De Croo. The minister emphasizes the importance of permanent education efforts, access to venture capital and a mind shift in entrepreneurship. “At the same time Belgium will keep on taking the lead in creating a digital single market.”
