Belgium’s Minister Alexander De Croo joins UN Women’s “HeforShe” campaign
On the sidelines of the Champions League football game between KAA Ghent and Valencia, Belgian’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Development Cooperation, Digital Agenda, Telecom and Postal Services Alexander De Croo joined UN Women’s “HeforShe” campaign. Through the “HeforShe” campaign, UN Women seeks to engage men and boys across the globe as agents of change for the achievement of gender equality and women’s rights. Men from all over the world pledge that equality for women is a basic human right that benefits all, and commit to taking action against gender discrimination and violence in order to build a more just and equal world.
In May 2015, Valencia Club de Fútbol and UN Women kicked off a partnership to promote gender equality. As part of the partnership, UN Women’s logo is featured on the back of the players’ jerseys when the team plays in European competitions such as the Champions League (CL). In the context of yesterday’s Champions League encounter between Valencia and KAA Ghent, UN Women organized a small HeforShe event at the Ghelamco Arena, home base of KAA Gent. Belgian and international VIPs engaged with the management team of the FC Valencia. UN Women is delighted that Minister De Croo formally joined the “HeforShe” campaign. Minister de Croo said: “I am convinced that gender equality is a basic human right that benefits all, and I am committed to taking action against gender discrimination and violence in order to build a more just and equal world”.
